Re: Almighty Bas vacation

I promised I would do a small update on how it went.

My first 2 days were spent accommodating to Egypt, as I had to get used to the heat, get a bit of a tan, and see how I had to interact with the local folk. As I was traveling alone, it took me a while to get used to it, but I'm glad I decided beforehand I would go diving, as it made me able to relax much more than I would've.

First of all, I did not film much because of 2 reasons. I was doing my Open Water Diving course, and my camera (Pentax Optio WG-II) only goes to 12m depth. My American diving buddy had a GoPro, and will send me a video of all the things we saw between 12m and 19m depth, but I'll have to wait for that for another 2-3 weeks.

After boring but necessary theory lessons, drinking parts of the Red Sea (tastes terrible), half choking because my mask wasn't equipped properly (my bad), I completed the course in 3 days, and used the 4th day to have 2 more fun dives.
I'm now an Open Water Diver, although I still haven't seen an email for confirmation yet, so although I'm slightly worried I'll have to wait for a bit haha Razz

My own videos didn't show all that much so I'll leave that be. In the area I dived, which was north-east of Hurghada (all those tiny islands), we mostly saw beautiful coral reefs, and lots of eels (even a really big one, with a head size around 40-50 cm diameter). Sadly that's only on the GoPro footage from my diving buddy.

Lastly, if I would recommend diving here. Yes and no. If we talk strictly diving, I would say take the recommendation from someone I met there. It's better to dive a little bit more to the south, around Marsa Alam. According to him there's more to be seen there, and even a little bit more of a chance to see some sharks Smile.

I'll leave it at that, if you have any questions feel free to ask. bounce

The first time you dive you'll go around a depth of 5 meters, together with an instructor who'll manage all your equipment underwater. All you need to do is breath and have fun!

Cool, I would love to see some sharks... wait while diving? Maybe not. Anyway, congrats on completing the course! I might just visit there someday.

Haha, thanks! Razz Ofc I would be nervous but I would love to see them nonetheless, I learned the signs to see when they're aggressive (sideways showing their belly and fins angled).

That looks amazing!

You'll have to check out the Great Barrier Reef before it all dies off.
